The expansion of the Three Rivers Convention Center is driven by two main issues: the need to enhance marketability in a competitive economy and the demand for flexibility in hosting various events. Current clientele requires larger and more specialized spaces, as the existing facility has become inadequate for complex gatherings.
To address these challenges, the expansion aims to increase the available exhibit space and allow for multiple event configurations, thereby attracting more business. Key marketing goals include enabling overlapping events, accommodating larger gatherings, and minimizing disruption to ongoing activities, which will ultimately create additional event days each year.
In August 2022, C.H. Johnson Consulting updated a study focusing on the Convention Center's surrounding master plan, recommending a 54,000 square foot addition of new exhibit space, conversion of the existing Great Hall into a Ballroom, and an additional 6,000 square feet of meeting space.
While this expansion addresses immediate needs, the master plan includes further development beyond the current project to ensure comprehensive planning for future growth. ALSC has identified potential future spaces in the space tabulation summary to facilitate this ongoing development during the design phase of the current expansion.
