Eastern Washington University, located 25 minutes from Spokane, is home to many commuters accessing a first-rate education in the Palouse landscape. Spokane Transit Authority desired a new transit stop reflecting the vibrancy of the college, which is undeniably EWU.

Grant County selected ALSC Architects to begin the conceptual process for a new multi-purpose events facility. The purpose of this initial Pre-Design phase is to clarify the vision, needs, and desires of Grant County and the associated stakeholders. The goal for the Grant County Event Center is to attract new events by addressing the need for an appropriately sized place of assembly to hold gatherings, celebrations, and events. The Grant County Event Center will embrace an exterior expression inspired by the agrarian surroundings and establish a magnetic presence on the hilltop at the approach to the fairgrounds. Flexibility will be achieved through an adaptable interior space, coupled with extending the program through connections to exterior zones.

The CHAS East Mission Clinic is built on an architectural vision that breaks away from the institutional feel of traditional healthcare environments. ALSC Architects have crafted this clinic to be more than just a place of treatment, but a warm and inviting community hub that promotes health and wellness. Patients are welcomed at a sleek Concierge station, leading them into a cozy, living room-style area. This carefully designed space, with its range of seating options and a community table with digital access, fosters a relaxing and engaging atmosphere.

Mirabeau Point Park and Ride has grown to be an important hub for Spokane Transit creating the need for a more prominent architecture providing coverage, seating opportunities, wayfinding, and bus charging. This expansion will offer more capacity for transit vehicles and more parking spaces for patrons. The canopy is a singular roof form cladded with cedar giving a warm and inviting feeling to the riders. The vertical glass panels provide protection from the weather while also providing transparency and safety. The masonry spire anchors one end of the canopy reaching up vertically as a wayfinding beacon. The material selection pays homage to the industrial railroad history through the use of steel, masonry, and wood cladding.

His career began with Miller Stauffer Architects (MSA) in 2004, where he steadily advanced to the role of Principal, a position he held from 2014 to 2024. Licensed to practice architecture in Idaho since 2010 and in Washington state since 2018, Michael has been dedicated to the field for over 30 years, with 20 years of professional practice.

Darcy Durgan

Darcy’s journey to architecture is a fascinating one, beginning with aspirations to teach high school and earning dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Biology and Theatre, with a minor in Philosophy, from Gonzaga University. This diverse educational background has fostered a well-rounded perspective essential for creative and critical problem-solving. Discovering a passion for design at a young age through self-created floor plans, Darcy pursued a degree in drafting, leading to an accomplished two-decade architectural career. In 2021, Darcy achieved licensure as an architect after qualifying for the architectural exams through the experience path.
