The renovated Mullan Road Elementary was designed to be a neighborhood school tied to its residential context while expressing a sense of permanence and its importance as a place of learning. The exterior of the existing school was renovated to fit within its park-like setting.
The building’s form and organization were designed to enhance opportunities for formal and informal learning by providing a safe, flexible, durable and inspiring educational environment.
The project included demolition of an 1950’s era portion of the school, construction of 17,000 square feet of new space and renovation of 40,000 square feet of space within the existing school.
The entry was redeveloped to address safety concerns. Site circulation and parking were revised to create a safe, efficient design that reduces conflicts between parent drop-off, bus traffic and pedestrians.
