As the student body at Walla Walla Community College continues to grow, so does the need for student amenities. This analysis of a new Student Recreation Center was completed with one main focus - overtly display student life, wellness and vitality.
The Recreation Center is planned to do much more than house weight machines and aerobic classes - it is meant to become a catalyst for how architecture contributes to the student experience. Dynamic, less formal architecture highly respondent to the existing campus offers a new platform for users to socialize, see others and be seen.
Vibrant functions are distributed between two floors with opportunities for students to spill outside - energizing both interior and exterior “rooms”. The dance/yoga studio and basketball court invigorate the first floor, while weights and cross-fit areas hover above on the second floor.
Conceptual design for the project is still under consideration by Walla Walla Community College.
