Located on Spokane’s South Hill in historic Comstock Park, the Comstock Pool was constructed in the 1930’s with a 50-meter lap pool and a beautiful white brick bathhouse. The South Hill Neighborhood Association, Citizen’s Advisory Committee appointed by the Parks and Recreation Department, and general public were in disagreement regarding what improvements, if any, were needed at this popular swimming destination. Opposing viewpoints ranged from leaving the facility alone to removing it entirely and building all new facilities.
ALSC conducted multiple public meetings, found the common ground necessary and provided a design solution that gained consensus among all stakeholders. The resulting $3.4 million construction budget provided for an interior renovation and rejuvenation of the historically significant bathhouse, a new combination 50 meter lap pool/25-yard lap-pool/recreation pool tank and equipment, plus a slide and other desired amenities for families of all ages and water recreation needs.
