This new pool and bathhouse were designed to replace a former outdated pool and bathhouse. Design goals included creating a new facility to present a welcoming face to the neighborhood and a design that fits into a current revival of the West Central Neighborhood.
The general character of the project is significantly defined by two elements. The pool itself is visually identified by colorful elements such as an in-water play structure, a large double water slide, other smaller water features, and large shading umbrellas. The bathhouse takes on a gabled residential character to be sensitive to the adjacent housing. Materials include masonry walls, wood roof structure, translucent glazing for natural lighting, louvers and screening material for natural ventilation and a standing seam metal roof.
Selection of this site and the design of the pool were the direct result of a significant public input process that actively sought out community involvement. This facility replaced a popular existing recreational and social hub, had no negative impact to the surrounding neighborhood, and enhanced a park that is considered a significant public amenity by the community.
